Jacob came into this life as our nephew. Cheri’s brother and his girlfriend were drug users and when Jacob was nine months old, we agreed to take Jacob into our home until they could get clean and sober. Unfortunately, the drugs had a stronger hold on them than we had realized. This was a big transition for all of us since our son, Michael, was already 15 years old at the time. Needless to say, God grew our heart for Jacob and he became a son to us.
August 9, 2007, was a very special day, for it was the day we officially adopted Jacob into our family. He has brought us tremendous joy. At five years old, Jacob asked Jesus into his heart. He loves to sing and praise God. He has an enthusiasm for life and people, especially his big brother, Michael!
On the day that Jacob was adopted, we ran into a friend, Sharon Strum. He went over and told “Auntie Sharon” that he had been adopted. Sharon knelt down to him and said, “Jacob, I was adopted too! When I asked Jesus into my heart, God adopted me as His child.” Without missing a beat, Jacob said, “Then I’ve been adopted twice!”
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” God has indeed begun a good work in Jacob’s life and we know that in Christ, God will be faithful to complete it.
