February 11, 2015 – In my former life, I spent LOTS to time in bowling alleys (as they were called back in the day)…..my teenage hangout was Victory Lanes, Pacific Beach, CA…..named apparently because it was built just after WWII ended…….anyway……
The one thing I learned about bowling that seems to apply to relationships as well….it’s all about the follow-thru…
You can get your body and your bowling ball up to the foul line in any number of creative / convoluted ways, but the critical thing to develop is a consistent follow-thru….the arm motion, almost like “saluting” the ball as you carefully lay it on the same board, the same speed, etc…..yes, easier said than done!
Now, about relationships, marriage, life….I’m great at generating ideas, thinking of things I think will bless my wife, encourage her, cause her to think well of her husband…..but the ideas alone don’t do much UNLESS there is some follow-thru…..you see where I’m going with this, I’m sure!
Let’s try a paraphrase…..”IF I have lots of good ideas to communicate love and care for my wife, and yet have no follow-thru, I become like a guy who is just making noise, feeling good about the ideas themselves”……
SO, during this Valentine’s week, IF you have promised your loved one(s) that you would do something, fix something, take care of a need they have shared with you……then perhaps one gift you can give your bride / girlfriend / loved ones is the simple gift of….Following through!
It does NOT have to be a big thing…..If you’ve suggested something, she may be waiting for you to take action….and so your follow through will speak volumes in most women’s love language!
So, as you are thinking about gifts this week, think about this….what have I promised my love that I would do for her….and can bless her simply by following through?
(Yep, after I wrote this, I remembered something my wife had mentioned – the house was needing a good cleaning…..I told her I would cover the vacuuming……so I busted out the vacuum!….can’t wait for her smile when she sees the carpet!)
